About me
For the past twenty-five years, I have worked across education, youth and community work, outdoor learning and psychotherapy, supporting people to learn more about themselves, each other and the world, and helping them to feel more connected, resourced and empowered in their lives. I have extensive experience working with individuals and groups in a range of roles and settings, supporting peoples' personal and professional development.
I am a UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and British Psychodrama Association (BPA) Group and Individual Psychodrama Psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor, Psychodrama Apprentice Trainer (BPA), Outdoor Therapist & Supervisor, Associate Lecture & Facilitator. I am also a certified Youth and Community Worker, Forest School Practitioner, Mountain Leader and Recognised Professional in Outdoor Learning.
I now run my own private practice, offering psychotherapy and supervision for individuals and groups, indoors, outdoors and online. I also run workshops and teach, most recently at the University of Cumbria and at the Minster Centre in London.
My approach
At the heart of all my work is my trust and belief that we all have an innate capacity for growth and healing, shaped by our relationships with ourselves, each other and our environment.
My work is to offer you a relationship within which you can feel safe enough to share, explore, reflect, learn and grow. I will work alongside you, co-creating a supportive therapeutic or supervisory relationship, and offering creative and embodied practices to support the work that you want to do.
I bring warmth, compassion and curiosity to my work as well as an ongoing commitment to my ethical practice, continual learning and development, and reflection on my position, privileges, biases and blind spots.
My approach is relational, creative and embodied, rooted in Psychodrama, and integrates a range of other theoretical approaches, including Attachment Theory, Psychodynamic Theory, Polyvagal Theory, Systemic Thinking, Ecopsychology and Geography.
I am a member of the BPA, UKCP, the Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL) and the Association for Outdoor Therapy (AOT), and work in accordance with their ethical codes of practice.
My practice
Most of my current psychotherapy and supervision work is in private practice. I have provided both individual and group therapy for a range of voluntary and statutory services, including Nottingham Women’s Centre, Nottingham Recovery Network, HMS Gartree Therapeutic Community and Catharsis Creative Arts Therapy. I currently work with adults, although I have provided psychotherapy for young people (14-18 years olds).
I regularly collaborate with colleagues to run psychodrama and psychotherapy workshops, including a Psychodrama Outdoors weekend in Croatia with Dijana Mateša. I also facilitate workshops for organisations and conferences, including the Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL), Tele’Drama International, the British Psychodrama Association (BPA) and the Lindley Educational Trust.
I also teach, most recently for The Minster Centre’s on their first-year Diploma in Integrative Counselling and for the University of Cumbria on their MA in Outdoor and Experiential Learning and in collaboration with the Adventure Institute in South Africa on their Foundations of Outdoor Therapy course.
Alongside my clinical, facilitation and teaching work, I am actively involved in the wider professional community. I volunteer as a founding committee member of the Association for Outdoor Therapy (AOT) and as an executive committee member of the BPA.
Prior to training as a psychotherapist, I spent many years working in education, youth and community work, and outdoor learning across the voluntary, statutory and private sectors in the UK and abroad. I worked for a wide range of organisations, including Venture Trust, The Prince’s Trust, Young Cumbria, Creative Partnerships and the Field Studies Council.
Much of this work involved supporting young people experiencing significant challenge and uncertainty in their lives. This work inspired me to train as a psychotherapist and to offer longer-term support and a therapeutic relationship in which to help people make sense of their experiences and work towards meaningful, lasting change.
